Mutant Water
2025
mixed media
Mutant Water explores water as a living, uncontrollable presence within domestic space. Starting from the water system that carries water from the Biesbosch into homes and bodies, the project looks at what happens when water escapes the systems designed to contain and purify it. Through experiments with bacteria, mould, and organic materials, water gradually transforms from something clean and controlled into something alive, contaminating, and bodily. The final work takes the form of a mutant kitchen fountain—a tumour-like structure that continuously leaks, grows mould, and disrupts the order of the interior. It questions the modern desire to keep architecture clean, contained, and free from the traces of our bodies.
