I thought I might be a fairy. Of course, I am not.
It’s sweet.
Sunlight pours down.
This is paradise. A paradise drenched in tears.
watercolour on newsprint
When I opened my eyes, I was in a dark, damp forest where it rained every day and the sun never shone. A small horn had grown on my forehead. I walked and walked to find my way out of the forest. The farther I walked, the larger the horn grew. And as it grew, it became so heavy that I could no longer lift my head. Eventually, I fell down. The horn had become so heavy that I could no longer move my body. Then, lying on the ground, I was able to turn my head and look up the sky. I opened my mouth and tasted the rain. It was sweet. Sunlight was pouring through the thick trees above me. Until that moment, I had never known. This place was paradise.
Where the child died, only the enormous horn remained. In time, the horn decomposed, and from there, a new tree began to grow.
